If you were there, then you know! If not, we asked a fan, and a supporting artist for their take on it. Let’s just say, the Joburg show approaches, and it’s time to get even more excited!
Wow! What a show! All of the support acts played out of their skins, the crowd were loving it, and then Kings of Leon truly rocked Cape Town to its beautiful core! But don’t take our word for it. We spoke to a fan, an SA rocker in the audience and Hunter Kennedy from support act, Die Heuwels Fantasties. If what they had to say is anything to go by, fans still looking forward to the Joburg concert on Friday have every reason to get even more excited than we all already are!
Hunter Kennedy is the guitarist for Die Heuwels Fantasties. Check out our Q&A with him here, and then have a look at our feature on all three awesome SA bands playing in Support of the Kings. We chatted to Hunter about his take on the show on Wednesday night, and he was very excited indeed! Here’s what he told us:
“We’ve never played to such a big crowd before! True to form, I only got nervous five minutes before the set and convinced myself that everyone was there to see KOL and not us, so I shouldn’t expect any response. Fortunately, with such low expectations, it felt like they loved us! I think we played a lekker set. We sneakily managed to bring Jack Parow and Francois Van Coke- who are both conveniently from Cape Town – onto stage with us. Can’t wait for the Joburg one!”
Then, we asked an SA rocker from a band not on the bill what he thought, to get an expert’s opinion on the event. Greg “Gump” Russell plays guitar for top SA heavy act, Pestroy. He’s played at other massive events before, and opened for several international artists, so he knows his stuff. He and his girlfriend had Golden Circle tickets. And he was totally impressed:
“The Kings of Leon show in Cape Town was completely sick! Hands down, the best sound and lighting at a concert. Ever! An amazingly good time!”
Lastly, we contacted a Kings of Leon fan about the show. Tamar Lurie is a 29-year-old interior designer from Cape Town. She and her boyfriend Jared were also in the Golden Circle. And they also had an absolute blast:
“What a fantastic concert! Amazing sound, and an amazing evening in Cape Town! I was well and truly ready for bed afterwards!”
With the Cape Town show done and filed firmly under “resounding success,” we’ve turned all our attention to Saturday’s Kings of Leon concert in Joburg! If you have tickets, now is the time to get properly excited! See you there, friends!
