Local Nokia N8, E7, C7 and C6-01 users can now make their Nokia smartphone even smarter, as Nokia’s Symbian Anna software update is available for download in South Africa. This update brings with it an assortment of improvements including gorgeous new iconography, a handy portrait QWERTY keyboard, as well as a web browsing that’s quicker than Usain Bolt. (not the recent, disqualified, Usain Bolt)
New features Symbian Anna will bring to your smartphone:
1) Improved text input
SMS and IM addicts rejoice, as Symbian Anna introduces a very useful portrait QWERTY keyboard that will enable some speedy and accurate, single-handed typing. Additionally, you’ll also see a split-screen view whilst you’re typing, which will allow you to view web pages, or message threads that you’re busy replying to.
2) Your browser on steroids
We have sent the standard Symbian browser to the gym and it has come back sporting a leaner interface, making it simpler and quicker to utilise. It also boasts improved compliance with recent standards, the likes of HTML5 and Adobe Flash.
3) Enhanced Maps
Your navigation experience via Nokia Maps will also become even better as it now features an easier and speedier search function. Public transport routes are also included in certain countries and you can check in to social networks, or to inform just one person about where you are, you can send an email or SMS message sharing your location.
4) Business functionality
Symbian Anna will also keep road worriers up to date whilst their on the move, as it features email improvements such as full meeting request support. Hardware-accelerated encryption of your phone’s data is offered for true enterprise-grade security, as is secure intranet access for business users who require IPSEC and SSL VPN enablers.
5) Near-Field Communications (NFC)
Lastly, but definitely not least of the features that Symbian Anna offers users is that it will finally unlock and activate the NFC hardware in the Nokia C7. This means the C7 owners will be able to easily share multimedia and game content with other NFC-enabled smartphones, employ their mobile with NFC-enabled accessories and read NFC tags on items such as posters.
How do you get the update?
Nokia’s Symbian Anna update is available via the Ovi Suite on your PC or the SW Update app on your smartphone. Due to the large size of this download, we recommend that you employ the Ovi Suite method, unless you have access to a strong and reliable Wi-Fi connection, which will enable you to do an update over-the-air.

Since loading Anna on Nokia C6-01 Ovi does not work and cannot connect or download apps!!!
I have a Nokia E7 and was enjoying the first two weeks of ownership without hassle – everything worked like a charm.
I have ‘upgraded’ to Anna and quite frankly it has made me very unhappy since… I ensure all apps are closed and activate power saving mode at night, leave it with 60% battery and 6hrs later it dies. The battery life has basically become that of a Samsung or Blackberry, which is completely opposite of ANY other Nokia I have ever owned.
I want a new E7 with the standard Symbian OS again – This upgrade has been nothing but an aggrevation to me!!!
