Ursula Fourie is a 37-year-old, self-employed sales rep, wife and mum. She’s also the winner of the ultimate rock n’ roll VIP experience, courtesy of Nokia! We chatted with her about how it all went down…

The interview

Well done on winning the competition, Ursula! How did you hear about it, and how did you enter?

It’s such a funny story! My husband and I were watching SABC3 in bed, and the ad’ for the competition came on. You know, the one to SMS? I just took a chance out of the blue! I didn’t even know it was such a big prize!

What happened when you found out you’d won? Talk us through it…

You wouldn’t believe it! I had the Census People here! It was so funny! I was telling everyone to be quiet; trying to hear what was going on! I made a I cake out of myself on 5fm! I was so shocked, I couldn’t even talk! My daughter (fourteen years old) was just laughing! Then, I thought I’d gotten the whole thing wrong! I said the wrong thing, and I wasn’t sure if I’d won or not. Then, on Friday, they called me to confirm I’d won…

Brilliant! What was your reaction like when they called back?

I had to go on loud-speaker and get my friend to confirm what I was hearing! I just said, “No ways!” I told no one for days, because I just couldn’t believe it!

Was it easy to choose nine friends to take along with you?

You know what, it was and it wasn’t. You can’t please everyone, you know. I just want to take absolutely everyone along. Ha, ha! I just have to take my daughter though. It’s once in a lifetime opportunity. When is she ever going to experience something like this again? I’ve also had a very rough year. My husband’s been out of work and it’s been hard, so this really came at the right time! I’m taking him, and my daughter, and then my mates. I worked it out so there’s couples going, and we’re all about the same age. It’s going to be great!

That’s brilliant! Are you a big fan of Kings of Leon?

Yes! They’re an awesome band. I really like them. I did go do some research online though, and now I know a lot more, so I’m even more excited! My one friend knows their whole history, though. She didn’t even believe me when I told her I’d won!

Did you already have tickets?

No, because we couldn’t get any! One of my friends who I’m taking tried and tried, but we couldn’t get. Now everyone who wanted to go in the first place is going!

You’re also getting some very cool prizes to take home too…

I know, and it’s such an amazing story! I absolutely love Nokia. Ever since they first came out, I’ve always only used Nokia. Now, for the first time ever, I’m using another kind of phone that was a gift from a friend. I’m so happy I’m getting a Nokia Smartphone! I can’t wait to be using a Nokia again!

We’re glad we could solve that problem for you, Ursula. Welcome back! Lastly, of all the things you’ve won in this competition, which part of the whole prize has you the most excited?

The whole experience! I just can’t pick one thing. The hotel, the VIP, the tickets, the Nokia Smartphone… everything! No, it’s impossible to say. Just the experience, I’d say. For someone who enters competitions but never wins anything, it’s all just amazing! And everyone involved that I’ve spoken to has just been so wonderful! Thank you so much!
